On November 30, 2015, at approximately 10:00 am, Powell River RCMP received a phone call from two concerned parents who were not able to locate their 2-year-old daughter who was last seen at their family home located near Hwy 101 and McLean Rd., south of Powell River.
The 2-year-old child, who was not adequately dressed for the temperatures, had unknowingly wandered away from their rural family property.
A joint agency search was immediately launched.
The RCMP, utilizing both a police helicopter and police dogs, Powell River Search and Rescue and the Malaspina Fire Department and various other community members conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area, which was a combination of large multi-purpose rural properties and rugged, forested terrain.
At 1:30 pm the missing child, who was cold and scared, had been located alive and healthy and was immediately reunited with her parents.
The Powell River RCMP would like to thank the prompt professional response by all the dedicated volunteers who donated their time to help a family in need.
