WORD to Ponder


When George Frideric Handel’s Messiah burst onto the stage of Musick Hall in Dublin on April 13, 1742, it was such a hit that ladies were advised not to wear “hoop” dresses in order to make room for more patrons. Now, Messiah is synonymous with the Christmas season and Handel’s most famous piece is performed countless times around the world. For example, this year, 13 out of the 22 largest American orchestras will perform Messiah 38 times.
