Kangen water is alkaline ionized water or electrolyzed reduced water and is produced by the water electrolysis process. This process was discovered in the 1950s and all water ionizer machines use this very same process to make “Kangen” or “Alkaline” water.
Many people have claimed their health improved once they started drinking alkaline/ Kangen water, said Trevor Anderson, owner/operator of Aaron Supplies and Services. “Some say it can help slow the aging process, regulate your body’s pH level and prevent chronic diseases like cancer,” he said. “After drinking only a glass or two, people say they can feel the difference it makes as it rehydrates your body.”
A 2012 study found that drinking alkaline water with a pH of 8.8 can help deactivate pepsin, which is the main enzyme that causes acid reflux. Another study suggested that drinking alkaline water may have benefits for people who suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. Professional athletes have posted testimonials saying ionized alkaline water boosts their performance by providing better hydration and aiding “energy” and “focus.”
The “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH level. “The pH level is a number that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of 1-14,” Trevor said. “For example, something with a pH of 1 would be acidic and something with a pH of 13 would be very alkaline. Normal drinking water is generally a neutral pH of 7.”
Water that is naturally alkaline occurs when water passes over rocks, like springs, and picks up minerals, which increase its alkaline level. Adding a squeeze of lemon or lime to a glass of water can make your water more alkaline or you can add pH drops. Drawing water through a Kangen, or ionizing machine, does the same thing.
