Following is a summary of the last Powell River Regional Board Meeting highlights. The summary is being provided as part of the PRRD’s commitment to transparency.
Financial Assistance Requests. The Board approved financial assistance in the amount of:
- $39,000 to the Powell River Historical Museum and Archives to assist them in their ongoing activities for 2016;
- $1,500 to the Powell River Food Bank;
- $12,500 to the Powell River Academy of Music
- $3,000 to support the WildSafeBC Program in 2016 to assist in securing a Community Coordinator in Powell River; and
- $15,000 to Tourism Powell River to help them staff the new mobile kiosk for the Roaming Ambassador program.
Gillies Bay Road Bicycle/Pedestrian Path Survey
The Board resolved to discontinue any further work on the Gillies Bay Road Bicycle/Pedestrian Path and to return the $150,000 of the Community Works Funding originally committed to the project to the Community Works Funding pool.
Canadian Red Cross
The Board endorsed the Disaster Response Agreement with the Canadian Red Cross Society for the provision of Disaster Relief Services throughout the Powell River Regional District.
Kelly Creek Community School
The Board accepted the 2014-2015 Annual Review from the Kelly Creek Community School and directed staff to send a letter to the KCCS Society acknowledging its efforts and accomplishments. An operating grant of $47,820 for the Kelly Creek Community School will be considered in the 2016 budget process.
Tourism Powell River – Request for Transfer of Community Works for Signage Renewal
The Board agreed to transfer $50,000 of Community Works Funds to Tourism Powell River towards phase 2 of their Signage Renweal program. The Regional District will enter into an agreement with Tourism Powell River on the intended use of the funds.
Van Anda Ballpark Crown Lank Tenure Renewal
The Board endorsed the replacement of Lease No. 232808 over Block 11 of Lot 1, Texada Island District, Plan 6958, Except thereout Block A, Plan 12870, for recreational purposes for a term of thirty (30) years.
Regional District – Texada Island Aviation Society Airport Operating Agreement
The Board agreed to enter into an Airport Operations Services Agreement with the Texada Island Aviation Society.
Lois Lake Access
The Board appointed Director Palmer as an advocate to meet with the cabin owners, interested parties and appropriate officials to see if the situation of the boat ramp closure on Lois Lake can be rectified.
