PR Film Festival Weekend at a Glance

The Powell River Film Festival runs February 17th to 21st at the Patricia Theatre in Townsite. Tickets are on sale at the Patricia Theatre. Sugar Coated

10:00 am feature on Saturday, February 20th: Get your morning sugar buzz! Pediatric endocrinologist Dr. Robert Lustig thinks we’ve all been “frucked” by industry. He’s evangelical, blaming sugar for a waiting room filled with obese kids with fatty livers. His flock of five million online followers grows daily. In the court of pubic opinion, he’s part of a leading group of experts who are putting sugar on trial. Tickets available at the door.

Ever the Land

3:30 pm feature on Saturday, February 20th: It’s a scenario familiar to Canadians: oppressed indigenous people fighting to rebuild and assert their rights. On this occasion, the setting is New Zealand’s beguiling Te Ureweraforest region. The players? A fiercely independent Tuhoe tribe negotiating a settlement and an apology from the Crown while constructing an architectural gem of a community centre through sustainable methods. Tickets available at the door.

10:30 am on Sunday, February 21st. Support emerging talent! See what can be produced in 2 days during the Adventures in Film Camp. Participants from Powell River and around BC will present their completed 1-minute film projects, filmed on location locally. By donation at the door.
