Council Meeting Highlights

Delegations
The newly formed Youth Council was introduced to Council. The Youth Council will liaise with the community, research issues, and provide input at Council’s Committee of the Whole and Council meetings. The Youth Council provides an opportunity for youth to learn how municipal government works, how to create change at the municipal level, and how to facilitate participatory decision-making in the community.

Vegetation Management Pilot Project
Council endorsed a vegetation management pilot project for a portion of the forested area locally known as the Penticton Trails with the goal of reducing wildfire hazard. The Penticton Trails straddle the municipal boundary with Electoral Area B and the pilot project will focus on approximately 800 metres of trail located within the City.

Support for Bill M203 – 2016 Workers Compensation Amendment Act
Council approved sending a letter of support to the Province urging government to support Private Members Bill M203 – 2016 Workers Compensation Amendment Act. The Bill proposes to insert a clause in the Workers Compensation Act recognizing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a presumed workplace injury for first responders.

Sustainable Communities Conference
Councillor Leishman reported on her attendance at the Sustainable Communities Conference recently held in Ottawa.

Healthy Communities Forum
Mayor Formosa and Councillor Hathaway reported on their attendance at the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority Healthy Communities Forum recently held in North Vancouver.

Destination BC Strategic Planning Workshop
Councillor Brewer reported on his attendance at the Destination BC Strategic Planning Workshop recently held in Vancouver.

Parks, Recreation and Culture Fees and Charges Bylaw 2438
Council gave first, second and third reading to Parks, Recreation and Culture Fees and Charges Bylaw 2438, a bylaw that sets the fees and charges for the use of parks and recreation facilities and services.

Brewery Lounge Endorsement
Council recommended the issuance of a brewery lounge endorsement for the Townsite Brewery and opted out of the public information process.
