Overdose at Sunshine Coast Health Centre.
On March 7th 2016 a client of the Sunshine Coast Health Centre succumbed to a fatal dose of what’s believed to be fentanyl. The Powell River RCMP and the regional Coroner continue to investigate the incident.
On March 1st at approximately 2:30am a vehicle was stopped on Hwy 101 near Homalco Road for having a burnt out headlight. The driver demonstrated signs of alcohol consumption and failed a roadside screening device. The driver was detained for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and was brought to the RCMP detachment and failed another breathalyzer. The driver is now facing the criminal code charge of impaired driver.
Female Passed Out In Driver Seat
On March 3rd, 2016 and anonymous complainant reported that a possible impaired driver was near Saskatchewan Avenue and Alberni Street. The vehicle was located parked in the parking lot with a female sleeping in the driver’s seat. The driver was observed holding drug paraphernalia in her hands and was woken and arrested. A small amount of illegal drugs was located and the driver faces the criminal code charge of possession of a controlled drug.
Cocaine Found on City Bus
On March 1st, 2016 small plastic baggy containing white powder was left on a Powell River City bus. The substance was determined to be Cocaine and was turned over to the Powell River RCMP.
