Now, Where Did I See That?

This red and white facade looms large through the tree tops when heading east on Drake Street. Further investigation reveals its location on Manson Avenue. If it’s true that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life,” (Oscar Wilde 1889), then you might see the comparison between the facade and Voice of Fire, an abstract painting by Barnett Newman – purchased for $1.76 million by the National Gallery of Canada in 1990. Although many were critical of the purchase at the time, “My kids could paint that,” some said, the huge canvas that measures 18 feet tall is apparently worth much more than its purchase price today.
