There’s a welcoming sign outside The Homestead on Hwy 101, south of Powell River. This piece of history was brought to Powell River from Alberta. Buckboard is  a name given to a four-wheeled wagon of simple construction usually drawn by a horse or other large animal. The ‘buckboard’ is the front board on the wagon, used as a footrest. It doubles as  protection from sudden ‘bucking’ from the animals’ rear hooves.
