News Alert: Tune in to CJMP 90.1 FM from noon to 1:00 pm on Friday, May 6th for the launch of CJMP News – a brand new initiative of CJMP Community Radio – and a new affiliate of powellriverdailynews.com.
Over the past week CJMP staff have been coordinating with volunteers and holding workshops on training future radio reporters and media makers. “We’ve gotten some new people on board through those initiatives,” said Carrie Swiggum, News Director at CJMP.
Friday’s show will feature an interview with Erik Blaney about one month of self-governance for the Tla’amin Nation, and how his businesses – including the Tla’amin Convenience Store – are affected by the change. Rob Southcott, acting Mayor of the month, is also on, and he’ll talk with Murray Dobbin about marijuana dispensaries and the proposed Sino Bright School.
There will be a weather report at 12:30 and then CJMP Station Manager Mel Edgar will speak with Ryan Thoms, the Manager of Emergency Services for the Powell River Regional District. “We will find out about Powell River’s evacuation strategy,” Carrie said. “Next there’s gardening tips and fishing info, if there’s time.”
The theme music for CJMP News was custom composed by John Wright, Western Canadian Hall of Fame musician.
“This will be our first show and it’s been incredible the response we’ve gotten from the community,” Carrie said. “This is a really exciting project and I can’t wait to see what we can do over the next year.”
Powell River Daily News will contribute news stories to CJMP News and collaborate to bring stories that affect our community to listeners and readers throughout the region.
CJMP News broadcasts every Friday from noon to 1:00 pm and then rebroadcasts on Saturday at 11:00 am. The show will also be podcasted. CJMP hosts all of their potcasts at http://cjmponline.ca/podcasting/
