Cannabis Dispensaries Decision

imageCouncil Action regarding cannabis dispensaries operating within the City
Council reported on the following two decisions made at the In Camera Council meeting held May 5th, 2016:

1. Send a letter to the federal government requesting they expedite the implementation of legalizing marijuana, noting that municipalities do not have the power to regulate or control marijuana operations; and

2. Send a letter to the cannabis dispensaries operating within the City of Powell River to advise they are in contravention of the Business License Bylaw and to request their voluntary compliance to close their operations and that the letter be copied to the property owners and that staff report back to Council regarding the dispensaries’ response.

One Response to Cannabis Dispensaries Decision

  1. Nadja Hocking says:

I wish to express my support for Cannabis Dispensaries here in Powell River. I need medicinal marijuana for relief of chronic pain, insomnia and spasms as recommended by my doctor for treatment of MS. Closing the local dispensaries as requested by city council causes extreme distress for me and violates my right to medical care . I was unable to express my concerns at the last council meeting because remarkably there is no wheelchair access available .
