The Powell River Community Forest presented the 2015 Community Forest dividend in the amount of $1,307,919 to Council.
Mayor Formosa proclaimed May 30 – June 5 Parachute Safe Kids Week.
Council representatives on Grant Advisory Committee
Council appointed Councillors Brewer and Skadsheim as council’s representatives on the Grant Funding Advisory Committee.
Public Hearing Report May 5
Council received the report from the May 5 Public Hearing regarding Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2439.
BC Mayor’s Caucus
Mayor Formosa reported on his attendance at the recent BC Mayor’s Caucus held in Fort St. John.
Councillor Leishman reported on her attendance at the recent Heritage BC and BC Arts Council Conference “Placemaking: Where Arts & Heritage Collide” held in Vancouver.
Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2439
Council gave third reading and adopted Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2439, a bylaw to rezone a portion of the property located east of Lindsay Park on Cranberry Street from PK Parks and Playing Fields to R2 Single and Two Family Residential.
Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2440
Council gave first and second reading to Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2440, a bylaw to rezone a vacant parcel located near the intersection of Duncan Street and Westview Avenue from R2 Single and Two Family Residential to RM1 Compact Residential. Council directed the Bylaw proceed to public hearing.
Resolution for 2016 UBCM regarding a herring recovery plan
Council approved sending a resolution to the 2016 UBCM suggesting a herring recovery plan and a moratorium on commercial herring fishing until herring populations recover.
Grant- in-Aid for volunteers working with refugees
Council approved a $400 grant-in-aid for the Evangel/Westview Refugee Sponsorship Group to defray the cost of 40 criminal record checks for volunteers working with refugees in Powell River.
