National Aboriginal Day

Tla’amin First Nation will celebrate National Aboriginal Day tomorrow, Friday, June 20th, with a special event to be held at Chi Chuy Pre-School in Sliammon.

The celebration starts at 11:00 am and will wind up around 2:00 pm, said David Louie, Cultural Director at Sliammon. “We will share music and stories and of course, the drummers will be there,” he said. “Food is being prepared as we speak, and there will be lots to share around.”

David said he looks forward to welcoming visitors the community of Powell River to the event. “Everyone is welcome to attend,” he said. “It is a day to honour our culture and traditions.”

National Aboriginal Day is an annual event that gives everyone an opportunity to pay tribute to the many contributions Aboriginal people have made to Canada. Across the country people will have an opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal people and their contributions towards Canada’s development and progress. First Nations, Metis and Inuit people will showcase their cultures and achievements in communities in every province.
